News and Reviews

New beer from Yuengling-
I just read that Yuengling is producing their Bock for the first time since the 70's. It will be sold as a spring seasonal in early February.
FYI-Yuengling is America's oldest brewery since 1829 out of Pottsville PA. Unfortunately we can't find it here in St. Louis.

Sierra Nevada Torpedo Extra IPA -
This has been out for 2 weeks (barely). It's a new round for 2009. I'm looking forward to trying it. Torpedo is somewhat between an IPA and a Double IPA...7.4% ABV.

CaCow! Chocolate Milk Stout from Cambridge Brewing Company-
Hmmm...I've had Left Hand's Milk Stout and like it...
The beer: ABV 6.4%
Fast Fact about Milk Stouts: In the late 19th and earlier 20th centuries, doctors often prescribed Milk Stouts to pregnant and lactating women to aid in the production of milk for breast feeding their babies.

REVIEWS
I would like to start things with a review of the Goose Island Bourbon County Stout. Do you remember it well enough to review?

It is one of my top beers of the last 3 months. It has a nice dark color. Smooth to pour, little head and carbonation. It had a nice rich smell of bourbon. Each sip had at least 3 levels: 1. Bourbon 2. Stout 3. Bourbon. And that puppy lingers after the finish. So rich and syrup-y...I can't remember the ABV on that bad boy but at $6 a 12 oz. one is enough for me.

What do you think?

  1. ah, the bourbon county...

The first time i sipped on this lady, i was at the winning table. that is not a euphemism.
I had already cut down an old timer, a much better player, and my best friend to get here. I had a few in me already and was feeling fine. Then it was handed to me, not all at once, but enough to tell she was an adult.

I want to tell you that goose island made a clone of my wife and then melted her and stuck her into a bottle. AFter that first sip, i was not interested in poke and the several hundred dollar first prize anymore. I followed that bottle around like a cat after a laser pointer and had difficulty walking like a cat with tape stuck over it's sensory pads. That was because of the other beer i had, of course, but it fits.
